The Haven Cowl

It's Friday and today is the last new design I'll be sharing for a while. Mostly because I've exhausted my earlier in the year explosion of creativity and because I've got a number of secret projects on the go which will be revealed as the rest of the year goes on. Today's pattern is a free one and it's a cowl that can be knitted either single or double. The pattern is right here in the blog post or your can pop over to my Ravelry Store for a free pdf, link below.

Crackington Haven is a rocky beach in North Cornwall that used to be the regular primary school trip for me, usually in the autumn or winter when it was cold, damp and raining but it was always just a bit magical. This cowl is inspired by waves and by the texture of the smooth sand to the lines of rock spearing out toward the sea. It can be made as a single or double cowl knitted in the round in an Aran weight yarn.

Difficulty

Knitted in the round on circular needles. Using knit and purl stitches together with knitting together, passing slipped stitches over and knitting in the front and back of a stitch creates the wave.

Yarn and Notions:

I used James C Brett Aztec Aran in Shades AL6 and AL5, each ball is 190m / 208 yards. I used two balls of each colour for the single cowl and two balls of yarn A, one of Yarn B for the double cowl.

Single Cowl - Yarn A (light) 110 m / 120 yards; Yarn B (dark) 80 m / 87 yards

Double Cowl - Yarn A (light) 220 m / 240 yards; Yarn B (dark) 160 m / 175 yards
